Industrial and infrastructure facilities generate noise that can be disturbing to nearby noise sensitive areas. The Ontario Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) describes the environmental noise guidelines for stationary and transportation noise sources in NPC-300. We perform environmental noise analysis to determine whether noise levels emitted from a facility meet the applicable noise regulations, and if it is found there is an exceedance, we will work collaboratively to develop noise control strategies.
Additionally, noise within a facility can be an occupational health and safety concern, as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). For noise within a facility, a noise survey can be done to evaluate the existing sound levels and make recommendations to improve worker exposure.
KTD Acoustics provides the following acoustical design and testing services for facility owners and operators:
- Environmental noise analysis for compliance with environmental noise regulations. This includes Acoustic Assessment Reports (AARs) as part of the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) or Environmental Activity Sector Registry (EASR) processes.
- During the development of an AAR, if it is found that noise mitigation is required, a Noise Abatement Action Plan (NAAP) can be prepared to outline the required mitigation measures and operational restrictions to meet noise regulations.
- Acoustic Audits to test for compliance with noise level limits, as may be required by an ECA.
- Sound level testing and environmental noise analysis to evaluate effect of facility upgrades and renovations.
- Noise surveys to evaluate sound levels within facilities, for comparison with OHSA requirements. If required based on the results of the survey, noise mitigation strategies can be determined.
